UX and UI design contribute to making a mobile app as near perfect as possible for the user. Any business owner or entrepreneur planning on using an app for marketing or sales purposes wants the best design. Of course, procuring the best requires hiring the best designers. The mobile app design world is filled with people claiming to offer outstanding UX and UI design. How do you know the designer truly delivers on promises? Here are six ways to increase the chances of hiring the right pro:
1.) Ask about Previous Employment
Previous employment does not refer to freelance clients. A prior employer refers to a marketing or design company that hired the professional to work in-house. Now, great designers don’t solely come from mobile app development studios. Freelancers do fantastic jobs as well. Working for a studio, however, tells a lot. What firm would retain the services of someone who wasn’t skilled or reliable?
2.) Request a Resume of Completed Works
What mobile apps did the designer previously deliver? The quality of your future app will likely resemble that of the ones the designer made in the past. Look for similar types of apps on the list. If you want a fitness app designed, consider it beneficial when the designer already crafted similar programs.
3.) Look for Similar Clients and Companies
Just as you benefit from hiring a designer that produced similar apps, a designer who worked with similar clients helps as well. Again, people do well when they are familiar with a job or client. Hiring someone who understands your industry makes sense. And don’t overlook the size and scope of previous clients. See if the designer worked with independent clients, big corporations, small businesses, and so on. You want a designer who understands the unique requirements of a particular client.
4.) Examine Innovative Apps
The designer’s resume may boast of unique apps that filled a niche. Innovation and creativity speak about the talents of a designer. Don’t dismiss such traits. Not every designer is capable of creating something that stands out.
5.) Try Out Some Available Apps
Learning about the apps the designer created isn’t enough. Check out apps he/she made and see how they work. Performing a “test drive” on apps allows you to gauge overall design and user experience. Reading about the apps or looking at still images won’t be enough. You must try out apps to get a feel for them and the designer. First-hand experiences hide little.
6.) Ask About Interactions During Phases
At some point, the designer will produce a workable blueprint of the app. Make sure the designer stays in touch with you during all phases of the mobile app development process. You don’t want to find yourself out of the loop at any point. Maybe you want changes made during the beta stage. Without being afforded the chance to communicate or provide feedback, you couldn’t ask for changes.
A final point here. For all six of these points to work best, they shouldn’t be rushed. Be as deliberate and thorough as possible. Otherwise, you might miss a step.
