The appliances in our home are wonders in their ability to make things operate as efficiently as possible. From our lighting apparatuses to our sinks, every appliance serves the right function at the end of the day. However, you may notice some fixtures like the sink may deteriorate as time passes.
Sometimes, all it takes is a simple repair of the faucet to get it back to its working state. At other times, the issue is much more noticeable. Many homeowners experience an odour emanating from the sink. The foul smell is unpleasant, uncomfortable, and possibly unhygienic.
Fortunately, there are solutions to make the nasty aromas disappear from your sink. Here is how to make your sink not smell foul:
1. Hot Water & Soap
One of the most simple yet efficient means of eliminating smells from your sink is to use hot water. You do not want to use boiling water, making things harder on the interior components. Rather, pour some hot water into a bucket and then some dish soap that you have lying around.
Create a solution from the two ingredients and pour the resulting solution into the drain. If everything checks out, you will be able to get rid of the smell present inside the sink. 2. Ice Cubes & Salt
A great way to solve this problem is to think outside the box. Normally, most of us wouldn’t think to combine ice cubes with the salt of some kind to get rid of a smell. It may be for the best, as the resulting combination is known to eliminate odours. Put some ice cubes down the disposal.
Then, pour some salt down as well. The odours will usually be gone after a few minutes, believe it or not. To add some freshness to the solution, you are encouraged to throw some lemon peels down as well. Ground the peels up, and then pour them down with some hot water. You will not have to worry about those nasty smells anymore.
3. Vinegar Solution
The solution above salt and ice cubes can be used with other ingredients. You may be obliged to use vinegar alongside ice cubes, salt, and lemon peels. It may not work immediately when you create your original solution and subsequently pour it down the drain.
To expedite the process, you will have to add some vinegar to the mix. The acidity inside of vinegar, when working alongside lemon peels, results in a much more powerful cleanser. Make sure you run some warm to hot water into the drain after exhausting its use.
4. Baking Soda
One of the best aspects of using these various tricks to eliminate sink smells is that they can be modified accordingly. Since no two sink smell issues will be alike, it could necessitate other materials or ingredients. If the salt aspect does not work, swap it out to use half of a cup of baking soda instead.
Baking soda and vinegar is the celebrated solution, as it acts as a deep cleanser for many problems in appliances. Pour half of a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a cup of vinegar. Wait a few minutes to allow the solution to work its magic. Soon enough, the smell from the sink’s drain should disappear for good.
5. Essential Oils
If the other ingredients do not work out, you will have to try something else. For the most part, baking soda and vinegar will work, but freshness may not come about from using them. If lemon peels grounded up is not your thing, you may also be inclined to use essential oils.
These oils add a fresh aroma to virtually any sort of appliance issue. Just be sure to use the correct amount, as anything more than a few drops may be counterproductive. Essential oils come in various aromas, too, from mint to lavender. Use whichever one you prefer, and your sink will smell almost brand new.
6. Periodic Cleaning
Most of these solutions will work in some way or another. However, do not just think that it is a one-and-done repair job for the smell emanating from the sink. You are encouraged to use these tips almost daily to prevent buildup from occurring inside the drain. Soon enough, you will not have to worry about those evil smells from the sink any longer!
